Please, pretty please, read my blog?

An Open Letter to PZ,

funny pictures

I'm just begging for more traffic. It's worked for others, why not for me?

Digg!

When I created the Behe vs. the Mousetraps game, PZ sent a lot of traffic my way. Why not give the same treatment to Ben Stein? An Expelled! video game might be just the thing! :)

Hey PZ - your comments thing is different than I remember....

*** D'oh. ***

Where did I go wrong??

dipippy (that's the word verification for this post -- I was excited to have vowels!)

When I checked the page out, the google ad at the top was for "expelled"

The irony... smoulders.

Ok, you got it. Now mine?

Hey, this isn't Pharyngula...guess it worked.

A buddy of mine reconciled his love of kittens and his dislike of grown cats by living in a high traffic area.
Good luck

Oh, great. Now I'll have to add you to favorites. :-P

The google add at the top was Expelled for me too. I clicked on it because you asked. I find the movie EVEN MORE offensive now! Ben Stein is bastardizing a great Monty Python skit! How dare he!

I can't BELIEVE you want to silence PZ. Who the fucking hell do you think you are, you arrogant jerk? Don't you know that this man has done more for science than all the rest of you moronic boobs put together? Go soak your head, you IDiot-wanna-be!!!

Brigit said...

This traffic petition has no tentacles, WTF? I'm very disappointed.

James F. McGrath said...

Well, I made a video game based on Expelled. If PZ decides he likes it, perhaps he'll send some traffic my way! If you improve on it, that traffic can be yours! :)

PZ linked to one of my posts once.
I felt popular and beloved for two days; hits went up four orders of magnitude; comments came rolling in by the dozens.
Then they just stopped coming. It wasn't me they loved. It was PZ. And he abandoned me. A crushing depression descended on my little blog and the fingers that type it and the brain that makes the fingers move. I almost went to the fish market to murder some cephalopods in an act of pure vengence.
I considered linking here to the same article. I was going to say it was an experiment in secondary and tertiary linking something or other...but I realize now it would just be a sad, pathetic attempt to inflate my traffic...again...
Personally, I'm beginning to think there's a conspiracy at work. I know you fuckers are toying with me, and PZ is "pointing and laughing"...maybe not out loud, but I can read between the lines. I can hear the snickers and sotto voce comments.
Bastards! Godless, I understand...but do you have to be heartless?
If I wanted abuse, I'd try chatting up Dawkins!

However, I keep clicking back 'cause that cute kitteh face commands me to.

PZ sent me. I thought there was going to be punch and pie.

I got you another hit, but I'm afraid I won't be clicking on "Expelled"'s google ad (to give them more hits).

Physicalist said...

I always click on the Expelled ad links on pro-science blogs. Am I wrong to believe that doing so transfers (a small amount of) money from the anti-science fools to the good guys? I figure $ beats hit counts, am I right?

makita said...

Hey, you really can't complain. I don't know exactly how I found your blog, but I visit regularly (several times a week), and I added you to my blogroll. Of course, that doesn't mean a damn thing. It's not as if I'm going to be sending you gobs and gobs of traffic.

PS. I got vowels in my word verification too: autfhia

Click away on an Expelled *ad*. They pay $$ for that. Just don't give them any free hits.

I have reported your web site to adsense-abuse@google.com for encouraging users to click. You say:

I thought about taking these ads down, but instead, I'm leaving them there. Click on them. Look at the nonsense they're selling. And then, if you feel so inclined, comment on the ads in the relevant posts.

After all, each click is taking advertising money from frauds and putting it into the hands of Google (and me).

which is a direct violation of the Adsense TOS. Regardless of how nonsensical the advertisers' products, they still have a right to match the keywords you write about.

If you do not want those nonsense ads showing up in Adsense, use the "Competitive Ad Filter" to ban those domains.

The Factician said...

Hi Anonymous (if that's really your name),

I don't encourage people to click multiple times. I encourage them to view products that are being advertised on my site.

I happen not to endorse the products. Very often, I think the products are garbage.

That's not an abuse of Adsense. It's a value added product.

You'd do well to relax.

Ripped off. No Expelled for me, only an offer to SMS me a bible verse every day. :-( I already have a bible from when I studied theology and had it revealed to me from on high that 99% of christendom has been made up as they go along to serve political misogynist power agendas.

It ain't news anymore.

And I didn't get any vowels!!

Anonymous said...

-F-,

I did not say you encouraged multiple clicks, only that you encouraged clicks. The second paragraph of the Adsense TOS states:

Encouraging clicks

In order to ensure a good experience for users and advertisers, publishers may not request that users click the ads on their sites or rely on deceptive implementation methods to obtain clicks. Publishers participating in the AdSense program:

* May not encourage users to click the Google ads by using phrases such as "click the ads," "support us," "visit these links," or other similar language
* May not direct user attention to the ads via arrows or other graphical gimmicks ...

It has nothing to do with my agreement or disagreement with the products in the ads, but as an Adwords advertiser and Adsense publisher myself, it is in my best interest to make sure all parties play by the rules.

It would be in your best interest to play by the rules as well, because once kicked out of Adsense there is no going back.

Is it obvious only to me that "Anonymous" is referring to a rule in the TOS for adsense advertisers, and not a restriction on bloggers?

Anonymous said...

Good grief, you'd think that people could make up their own minds whether or not to click on advertisements. It's not as if Factician was going to change my mind one way or the other. Anonymous needs to take a nap, or drink a glass or water, or take an ice bath, or whatever it takes to cool down already.

The Factician said...

Actually, I reread the Google Ads agreement, and it seems that Anonymous (not you, Anonymous, I mean the Officious Anonymous - oh dear, too many Anonymi here to tell them apart) may actually be correct.

As displayed, my statement may have been a violation. I've adjusted it accordingly.

Thank you for pointing it out, Officious Anonymous. And I'd like to return the favor. The data suggest that your panties may be one or two sizes too small. I suspect you'll be happier with a newer, larger pair. It's a freeing sensation to wear appropriate sized undies.

Best regards,

-F.

I have to deal with the same thing here on Blogger and on MySpace. On MySpace I have a beautiful mixture of Carl Sagan Ware, Humanism, Atheism, and Pantheism, and some damn how, creationism and Expelled are all over it! How about a dart game or a shoot-em-up with little Ben Steins? Nyeh-eh-eh!
